I wanted my mom to get better but she was being difficult about entering a drug rehab facility. She kept denying that she was an alcoholic, saying that she was fine, that she had everything under control. But she didn’t. I was worried because she might get jaundice or die. She might also get different illnesses from all the men she slept with. She was becoming reckless and couldn’t make any proper decisions. What was going to happen to us if she kept staying this way? I forced her to go to Recovery First. They explained to me the steps that would lead to my mom’s health. First she had to stop drinking alcohol. They would help her get through the Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome which was a common reason for relapse along with addictive thoughts and denial. I moved to New York City a few years ago. I was very happy to do this, it is a place that has been really great to me.
