The School Food

Schools are required to provide delicious, nutritious real food to its students. Each student is to get a milk, vegetable, fruit, and main course every day. Though they send home a menu, a parent never really knows what is in the food they are giving their children. As a mom who is concerned about her child’s well-being, I have made every effort to find out just exactly what my son is eating at school. I spent a lot of time researching the quality of food given to our children in schools, and I found some shocking results.

According to some REAL Food Blogs, the food that is being served at the schools is of very poor quality. Schools buy the cheapest bulk food they can buy. With so many kids on free or reduced lunches, the school can’t afford to buy decent food. Some of the food that is served at the schools is only one percent real.

Seriously, the cheese dip served for hotdogs, pretzels, or breadsticks is one percent away from being plastic. Can you imagine letting your child eat a plastic bag. Well when you allow them to eat cheese at school, you practically are. Our children get a lower grade of food in the school system than known felons in jail receive. How sad is it that a criminal is eating better than our own children?

Because the quality of food is so poor, in the school system, and a lot of the food processed and lacking nutrition, I have gone to brown bagging it for my son. At least if I pack his lunch for him, I know what he is eating. It is important that mom step up and give our kids the best food they can get. It isn’t the schools job to raise our children, it is ours.
