The Canon 55-250mm is only my second lens so I do not know how qualified I am to talk about it but so far, it has been a great addition to my standard 18-55mm. My reach has expanded considerably with this lens and I find myself able to take much better photos than ever before. I even took it with me on holiday and it came in very handy when we went on a game drive to check out some wildlife. I have seen some gargantuan telephoto zoom lenses before so I appreciate the fact that this one is so light and compact. It even has a built in feature that allow you to take photos by hand without worrying about blurriness occurring if you shake. This is incredible useful when shooting at the long end of the lens and I am sure that it saved quite a few of my shots that would otherwise have been blurred.

The SAL-30M28 is compatible only with a cropped sensor digital SLR camera. It is not compatible with full format cameras, and this is a major limitation of this lens. The SAM feature which is a cheaper technology than the SSM one still works and aids in quiet performance while auto focusing. The auto focus is also relatively fast. The lens has a one to one ratio for magnification making it a true macro lens. The optical elements are grouped into five groups with six elements. The minimum aperture of this lens is f/22 and the minimum focal length is 0.13m. It is a very light weight lens and weighs only 150g. The lens is also small in size and has a dimension of 70×45 mm. The optical quality of the lens is average. It produces sharp images, however the lens has a problem of vignetting and distortions. The lens is readily available at Amazon, Ebay and other stores.

I have recently read a very informative Tokina 35mm f 2.8 review that gave me better insight on how the focus of this lens works. This model has a manual override feature that allows you to switch from auto to manual by simply pulling the focus ring. This also allows the photographer to easily adjust the focus to create sharp images. The autofocus works with a standard motor that produces very average focus speeds. Some may complain that it is a tad slow, but I can’t say that it has ever hampered me to get the shots I wanted. The lens also features a limiter switch that prevents the motor from trying to track through the whole focal range, allowing it to focus more quickly in situations where it is difficult to focus. Obviously the lens’s capability to support bigger apertures, especially at f2.8 makes it easier to focus in darker conditions.
